What Makes a Strong Application?

Strong applications are honest, specific, and focused on real impact rather than aspirational language. Judges value genuine insight into what's actually happening in your organisation or practice, not polished rhetoric.

✓ Characteristics of Strong Applications:

  • Be honest and real — Judges value genuine insight over polished language
  • Focus on what actually happens in practice — not aspirational statements
  • Show impact in a way that suits your level — qualitative evidence is valid in all categories
  • Demonstrate leadership involvement — wellbeing should not be owned by HR alone
  • Think about culture, not just initiatives — 'this is how we work' not 'this is what we offer'

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

❌ Listing initiatives with no explanation
Avoid simply listing what you do. Explain why you do it and what impact it has.
❌ Overly generic answers
'We support wellbeing' is too vague. Give specific examples and context unique to your organisation.
❌ Copying policy language
Describe your organisational reality, not what policy documents say you should be doing.
❌ Focusing only on perks
Yoga classes and fruit are nice, but without strategic context they don't demonstrate wellbeing culture.
❌ Repeating the same content
Each answer should be distinct and specifically address the question asked.
